In the early stages of the pandemic, I couldn’t help but remark that the number of pages in The Globe and Mail devoted to death notices roughly doubled. And so began a ritual that has spanned almost 30 years and counting. I would find myself lost in their life story, feeling gratified when their spirit was captured, scribbling additional details in the margins. ![]() I searched for their obituaries to seek details of their memorial service. I was transfixed by the lives and stories of our patients and, when they died, I felt the loss of each of these individuals profoundly.
